KAAN FIÇICI

2D

After graduating from high school, İTÜ Mesleki ve Teknik Anadolu Lisesi and taking art classes at M.E.B Birleşik Sanat Evleri, Kaan Fıçıcı (Istanbul, 1982) completed his Bachelor’s Degree in Visual Communication Design at Istanbul Bilgi University with scholarship. Nowadays, the artist focused on his studies for the Master’s Degree in Painting Department of Faculty of Fine Arts at Marmara University, while working on visual arts.
Kaan Fıçıcı grounds his works on Hegel’s words, “The history of the world is none other than the progress of the consciousness of freedom” and Marx’s and Engels’s words “We know only a single science, the science of history.”
The artist focuses on how the regime of knowledge and interpretation conquer time and place, eventually suppressing the conscious/subject. The paradoxes the artist encounters about the descriptions of the subject, historicity, cognitive dissonance and themes of cultural evolution become the main subject of his creations. The artist tries to reflect his spontaneous impressions and expressions about language of images and the relationship between forms and human mind.
