NİHAT KARATAŞLI

Nihat Karataşlı (Izmir, 1988) completed his Master’s Degree at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. The artist, currently based in Beirut works on videos, animations, sculptures, performances and installations. His works tackles the perception of intimacy in the physical and virtual public spaces. In his current projects, the artist concentrates on the rituals of purification, treatment and communal healing.
Karataşlı participated in artist residencies in Lebanon, South Korea, Spain and Turkey; including the Home Workspace Program of Ashkal Alwan and the Research and Production Programme of 16th Istanbul Biennial. He gave speeches in institutions like Koc University, The School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Framer Framed (Amsterdam), Akbank Sanat, Borusan Contemporary and Yapı Kredi Culture Arts and Publishing. Karataşlı published articles and interviews in Istanbul-based arts magazines, Art Unlimited and border_less. He is the co-founder of Hüzün Archive and the eco-collective [s-a-p-o] based in Lebanon.
His upcoming solo exhibitions and screenings are: PnPDiaries at La Juan Gallery in Madrid and Kasseler Dokfest at KulturBahnhof Kassel.
