BIOGRAPHY
Özgür Can Taşçı (Istanbul, 1995) studies at Faculty of Fine Arts at Marmara University. The artist has exhibited his works at many platforms such as Mamut Art Project, Sub Squ, California College of the Arts.
He sees art as a significant part of his activist identity. Thus, queer community, concept of transfeminism, place, city and body constitute the core of his works. In his works, detailed portrayal of the bodies symbolizes queer solidarity; his use of lines symbolizes the potential future of queer community and chaotic details symbolize chaos of the city.
As a member of Istanbul LGBTI Pride Week Committee, Taşçı took part in the organization of Coğrafya exhibition which was held during the Pride Week. Currently, he is the art director of TAPA, Transformative Art Project for Activists.
The artist poses questions to himself and people around him that play a significant role during the creation process. He wishes to reflect not just today’s circumstances in his works but also the future he dreams and desires.
