SİNEM MUCUR

2D

Sinem Mucur (Çanakkale, 1981) completed her Bachelor’s Degree in Graphic Design at Bilkent University. London-based artist exhibited her works in Istanbul and Paris both solo and as part of group shows apart from London.
Runner-up for the Hackney Wicked Art Prize in 2016, she has started Contradictory Impulses, a collaboration with Ayşegül Turan and exhibited in Ambidexter in 2020 curated by Empire Project.
As to photograph is to keep the captured moment and a photographic image may serve as the evidence of a presented scenario, the subject, the time and the place it occurred; photography is the apparent first choice of medium to document any journey.
In artist’s search of the temporary but ephemeral appearances of the world and the phenomenal reality underneath it, it helps her to share a mediative experience of the utopian and distopian fantasy, its landscape and time.
At times by arranging split seconds to form singular moments in multiple exposures and allowing the light to draw the time, and other times by manipulating with digital technologies with a darkroom-like approach, she explores the borderline between a photograph and a painting while celebrating the film, darkened boxes and being light sensitive.
