BİLGE ABUR

Bilge Abur was born in 1999 in Izmir. In 2017, she began studying painting at Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University. In 2018, she joined the university's Illustration Club, where she truly became familiar with illustration. For two years, she served as the club's president, giving her the opportunity to both develop her own artistic production and lead club activities. She has participated in various group exhibitions with works in painting, illustration, and printmaking. In May 2023, she held her first solo exhibition in Kadıköy, featuring her paper-based drawings. She is currently part of the Hood Base team, where she actively engages in cultural and artistic work. Hood Base, an alternative art space, hosts exhibitions from artists working in different disciplines, offering her the chance to explore various facets of art and encounter new forms of production. In addition to painting, printmaking, and drawing, she has also been focusing on experimental sculpture in recent years.

In my artistic practice, I am guided by elements that I admire in their physical form in the world around me. The places, people, and especially the compositions formed by objects that come into random contact with each other in everyday life, form the foundation of my work. In this process, I take on the role of both the observer and the conveyor of man-made objects. While reinterpreting these artificial objects, which are both replicas of nature and in contrast to it, I combine my drawing education with the approach to art I developed in my childhood.

Rather than aiming for a clear result in my artistic production, I allow my style to change and evolve at every stage. In this process, where I approach each step as a separate experience, my formal and conceptual approaches naturally build themselves. My woven sculptures, which take shape spontaneously without a clear beginning or end, reflect a process-oriented approach that is independent of the final result, much like my painting practice. These sculptures, like my paintings, embody the idea that the process itself creates the art, where every step I take holds a piece of meaning.

In my work, the process plays a more significant role than the result. Throughout this process, everything remains fluid and open to continuous change, which is why I avoid formal or conceptual certainty during production. By allowing randomness and encounters to find their place in my artistic creation, I generate a new experience each time.
