Ceki Celardin was born in Izmir in 1968. He graduated from Boğaziçi University in Chemical Engineering and has a master's degree from UC Davis. He has been living and working in New York since 1998. The artist took photography classes and studied Color Science at ICP New York. Celardin, whose photography turned into a passion over time, has 25 years of experience in the fashion industry. “I've always been fascinated by colour. To me, color has a relationship with words, emotions, and memories…a powerful form of communication. I remember spending hours in the garden as a child, trying to see the true colors on a butterfly's wings. “I am filled with nostalgia because I have a photographic memory and a happy childhood.” Ceki is curious about the world around him and draws inspiration from architecture, psychology, sociology, decorative arts, fashion and botany. The artist, whose interests create an unexpected visual complexity in his photographs, describes himself as follows: “As a hopeless romantic, I look for the subtle or invisible in everything. At the same time, I approach the photographic frame like an engineer and try to figure out its mechanics. This is generally how my photographs are created."
