HAKAN SORAR
2DHakan Sorar, who graduated from the Department of Mechanical Engineering (Istanbul, 1991), took his first step into art by receiving training on photography and different art practices in various workshops. He has worked as a photographer for online and print publications. Having completed the master's program at the Faculty of Science, Sorar continues his master's degree at Beykoz University, Faculty of Art and Design, Department of Communication Design and Semiotics.
Sorar, who held his first personal exhibition in 2020, continues his productions in Istanbul, where he establishes a connection between digital and analog with various printing techniques. In addition to his art projects, he continues his work on photography and 3D design, the body and the digital body. His works have been exhibited at various international queer festivals.
ARTIST STATEMENT
Hakan Sorar has a special interest in subjects such as body, gender, human-space relationship and changing architecture in his artistic works through the instant films he uses. He investigates the relationship between the individual and his changing environment in his graphic compositions, which combine the human figure with architectural elements. In his works, he distorts the form of the captured moment and creates a new reality. It manipulates and fragments the frozen 'moment' and reveals a new frame from objectivity to subjectivity. By making additions and subtractions to the frames taken, it produces new queries on the concept of body and space.
In his digital drawings, where the line between body and object becomes blurred, the artist focuses on the body, which is controlled and shaped by various power mechanisms. With his productions, he asks questions about body, identity, form, politics, object and gender.
