ARTIST STATEMENT

After a classical art education with different materials, A. Ceren Asmaz, who has focused on ceramics and illustration as of 2019, makes surface evaluations, regardless of the material, while creating images and scenes on the human phenomenon of the modern age. The artist aims to fit situations into a framework with the freedom to accept her own perception of reality as correct; In doing so, it builds different visual elements on top of each other. The illustrations, which are answers to the dialogues in her mind, are actually creations brought to the physical environment through limb, figurative distortion and space/non-space research to non-rational questions. While she uses her production as a means of mental release, she also faces the thoughts that she believes need to surface. As a parallel of the modern world, Ceren built 'Gopitholand', a huge village where constantly developing, diversifying and living creatures live, and then sat on the queen throne of this village. Gopithos, the inhabitants of this village; They are individuals that the artist creates while trying to make sense of herself and people, and who are made visible by the society they live in, regardless of good or bad, right or wrong. Depending on the series they are in, Gopithos sometimes depict a scene, sometimes they image sentences that are inadequate to express, and sometimes they just exist there and bear witness. Ceren, who produces mostly two-dimensional works with her alter-ego named Mjora (2007), tests the boundaries of her own mind by trying to produce like someone else when she gets bored of academic boundaries.
