BIOGRAPHY

Yağız Seis was born in Istanbul in 1997. He graduated from the Painting Department of Istanbul Mimar Sinan Fine Arts High School (ADGSL) in 2015. He then completed his studies in the Sculpture major of the Department of Painting and Arts Education at Marmara University, graduating in 2020. After graduation, he continues his work in painting and sculpture at his own studio in Istanbul.

ARTIST STATEMENT

Yağız Seis creates his artistic works inspired by the Persian word "dem," which is associated with breath and time, referencing the psychological development of humans through the cycle of birth, life, and death. His works present the emotional state created by the past, losses, resistance to life, and persistence from a harsh perspective. In addition, through a figurative approach, he critiques the misdefined aspects of patriarchal society, questioning inherited legacies, the conventional process of uniformity, and the perception of formality while interpreting contemporary issues. Rather than using a didactic approach, he prefers to express these critiques through an impressionistic style.

In both sculpture and painting, he adopts an experimental attitude, utilizing different techniques based on his psychological reflections. By playing with the essence of the material and exploring surface changes, he expresses his emotions. This allows his emotions to become part of the message he wants to convey and, through discovering the boundlessness of his own limits, he creates a new language. In his artistic productions, he enriches his practice by studying technical details such as form, material use, composition, and proportion in the works of artists like Francis Bacon, Anselm Kiefer, Henry Moore, and Rene Magritte, helping him determine where he can carve out his own space in the field.
